Mahum Jamal | Narrative & Documentary Filmmaker

Mahum Jamal is a filmmaker based in Northern California. She holds dual masters degrees – an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business as well as an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her work focuses on stories of spirituality, identity, diaspora, dreams, gender, and global culture as explored through human relationships.

Mahum's debut feature film, A Good Dream (2018), which she wrote, directed, and produced, is distributed by Freestyle Digital Media and available widely on TVOD platforms including iTunes, Amazon, and GooglePlay. Additionally, her work as a line producer has been showcased at festivals including Sundance and Tribeca.

While at NYU, Mahum received both the Story Mining and Supply Scholarship and the Essential Entertainment Scholarship. Her specialization at the intersection between art and finance has led to consulting roles with WarnerMedia, RadicalMedia, The Fine Art Group, and Mother Industries, where Mahum has advised specifically on investment opportunities in niche creative sectors. She has also worked independently as a film finance consultant.
